It has been a while since I posted anything on this fun blog of mine, and it has come to my attention that a majority of my "writing" lately has been in text messages, mostly written in emojis and cat pictures. While that is a fun and appropriate way to communicate with one's sister, it is generally frowned upon in the professional world and in published works.
I read something I wrote several years ago when I was still in grad school, and realized how good my writing was then. I felt like my writing quality has significantly decreased since then, so I need to practice more! This is an especially important issue now, as a large portion of my work is writing (both in my full-time and contract work).
Why did I give up writing so much in the first place? I don't think I ever made a conscious or intentional decision to write less, it just happened as I started my career. I was working at least 40 hours a week, was planning a wedding/got married, and was trying to navigate my way through the real world. All of that activity left little time for writing, and it wasn't a priority for me.
Another reason? Writing is hard. It requires a lot of effort and brain power, something hard to come by after a long day of work - or even before a long day of work.
The moral of the story: I'm going to try to post here more often. Hopefully the writing will improve with more posts :)
